ETV launches News 18 Kerala in Thiruvananthapuram

The State Government is against imposing any restriction on media, said Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan during the launch ceremony of Panorama Television’s Malayalam News Channel, News 18 Kerala.

Those who are being exposed by media are not against media, he added in his speech.

ETV News has launched a new channel called News 18 Kerala. The channel was launched at the Hotel Taj Vivanta in Thiruvananthapuram in the presence of Kerala Chief Minister P. Vijayan who was the chief guest (PTI)

Those in the media sector should realize that a few politicians and prominent personalities keep distance from media because they are afraid of controversies. It is unfortunate that a section of media is exaggerating silly things at the cost of serious issues affecting the nation and our society. There should be a self-check in this issue, the chief minister added.

Speaking on the developmental initiatives of Kerala, he said that economic recession is not going to stall any of the projects. The government has options before it to arrange funds for various projects being planned, Pinarayi Vijayan said.

Responding to the rumors on liquor ban, Vijayan assured that new liquor policy would be adopted with an open mind.

"Instead of rushing for breaking news, media should report news truthfully," said Ramesh Chennithala, Leader of Opposition, Kerala Legislative Assembly. He specifically appreciated the way the group has responded to the causality of his colleague Sanil Phillip and his family.

Former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy who was also present on the occasion. During his speech, he claimed that no government project was stopped due to economic recession during his tenure.

"Political violence, financial management, liquor policy, etc are the major challenges before the new state government, said Jagdeesh Chandra, Head News Network. Keeping aside political differences, parties should join hands to make the development of the state a reality," he added.

Head News Network Shri Jagdish Chandra in his welcome speech said that News18 Kerala will provide credible news in the state and will emerge as "voice of the people" in the state. He said, "This channel will help government also to take its developmental programmes and policies to the people. He said News18 Kerala will be free, fair and independent channel."

Other dignitaries present included P Sreeramakrishnan, Speaker, Kerala Legislative Assembly, VSAchuthanandan, former Chief Minister, Venu Rajamani, Press Secretary to the President of India, Ravi Pillai, Industrialist, Kadakampalli Surendran and EP Jayarajan both State Ministers, Kummanam Rajasekharan, BJP State President, O Rajagopal, MLA and former Central Minister, senior bureaucrats and other personalities from legal, film and sports fraternity.

Panorama Television Pvt Ltd is a part of the Network 18 Group, which is owned by Reliance Industries. Ten regional channels of this network are running with brand name ETV and The newly launched three channels are named as News 18 Assam/North East, News 18 Tamil Nadu and News 18 Kerala.
