Kanpur train derailment: Shivraj Singh Chouhan announces Rs 2 lakh for deceased

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Sunday announced Rs 2 lakh to family members of those killed in the train disaster near Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh.

He also announced Rs 50,000 to each of the seriously injured.

Chouhan later left for the accident site where 14 coaches of the Indore-Patna Express derailed before dawn.

At least 96 passengers were killed and 150 injured on Sunday when 14 coaches of the Indore-Patna express train derailed near Pukhrayan area in Kanpur Dehat district, with railways officials saying the number of casualties could rise.

The incident took place at around 3 am near Pukhrayan, about 100 kms from Kanpur.
